The famous Italian Tiramisu! This delicious, layered dessert is made of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, a creamy mascarpone cheese mixture and a dusting of cocoa powder on top. It is said to have originated in Treviso in the latter half of the 20th century and first showed up on a menu in 1972, which was at the restaurant Le Beccherie, located in the heart of the old town area.

Prep Time:                Cooling Time:

30mins                          2 hrs

Total Time:

2.5 hrs

This recipe makes two servings but can be double or tripled as needed. We made this dessert in clear glass individual bowls, but it can be made in one larger bowl as well.

Ingredients:

  • Italian Ladyfingers (about 3 cookies per serving)
  • 2 eggs
  • 125g container of Mascarpone Cheese
  • 4 tbls of sugar
  • 1 to 2 cups of coffee (cold)
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Separate the egg whites from the yolks and put into two different bowls. Start with the egg whites and add half of the sugar into the bowl, with your electric mixers, mix until it’s firm, which will take some time, so be patient.

  1. Next add the other half of the sugar to the egg yolks and mix until combined, then start gradually adding in the mascarpone cheese. Continue mixing until it thickens up.

  1. Now, start adding the egg white mixture, spoon by spoon into the egg yolk mixture, mix it gently from bottom to top.

  1. Once ready, take your glass bowl or individual ones, and spoon in your first layer of cream mixture at the bottom, then soak your lady fingers for a few seconds, on each side, in a bowl of cold coffee. Break them if needed to fit into the bowl as the next layer. Next add in another layer of cream then another layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, then another layer of cream then top it off with a generous dusting of the cocoa powder.

  1. Put the bowl or bowls in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. I’ve made this dessert in the morning before and kept it in the fridge all day and that worked well.

Buon Appetito!!
